The goal of The League City Dog Park Association is to bring the first of what we hope will be several dog parks to the Galveston County Area. Galveston County and League City is one of the fastest growing areas in Texas and home to thousands of pet owners who would like a nice place to exercise and work their dogs, off leash, as well as to socialize their dogs with other pets in a safe and pleasant environment. The League City Dog Park Association is working with the League City Parks and Cultural Services to prepare a written proposal identifying appropriate parcels of undeveloped park land in League City for consideration for designation as a dog park. The City of League City has received several hundred acres of undeveloped land. which are scattered throughout city limits. The city also has a dedicated fund for improvement of these undeveloped properties so that they can be converted into nice parks for the citizens. Creation of one or more dog parks in League City will open some of this land for access by thousands of dog owners and other animal lovers living in League City. The League City Dog Park Association intends to present a written proposal for the League City Counsel to consider within the next thirty days and to follow that up with a written petition drive if necessary to convince the counsel members that the citizens of League City want this type of park facility. The City of Houston has opened at least a dozen dog parks in the last decade by using the same techniques that the League City Dog Park Association is undertaking now. |
